Well, it is about that time again. The first preseason game in the NFL is in two weeks. Let the countdown begin to the regular season (6 weeks).
However, I have a couple of things to get off my chest in brief.
1. How is it that training camp causes some of the most foolish talk to come out of the mouths of players (and fans of their respective teams) -- especially those who have no room to talk?
2. Why is it that the "You have to beat the champion" stuff all of a sudden does not apply now that the Giants won the Super Bowl? I don't get it.
Back to the first point, I read a column today on ESPN.com by Sal Paolantonio (he stole it from a writer in a local Philly paper, by the way -- those of us who read papers nationwide know better) and Donovan McNabb is talking wreckless like his name was Max B.! He claims they're the team to beat in the NFC and NFC East? Says who? He claims a lot of people are picking them to win. WHO???
It's bad enough no one gives the Giants credit and talk as if it is Dallas and Dallas alone in the NFC East. Didn't we just beat them when it counted most? I don't get it.
The Giants beat the Buccaneers, Cowboys, Packers AND Patriots on the way to winning the Super Bowl. That's no fluke. The team finally played up to par. The Cowboys have choked for the past 2 years in the playoffs and the Iggles have been virtually irrelevant since they appeared in the Super Bowl after the 2004 season. I don't get it. The Giants did not lose THAT much in the area of personnel that they should be brushed aside as irrelevant.
Real quick -- here are my picks for the NFC East as I see it right now (which means this can change by the end of August LOL)
New York 11-5
Dallas 11-5
Washington 9-7
Philadelphia 8-8
